History of SWCPA

We are a relatively young association having formed in March 2017 with only 35 members; however, currently we have over 200 players on our mailing list.  The motivating factor to establish the association was to work with city and county officials to identify a location and to construct dedicated, outdoor, public pickleball courts in Durango, and that is still our primary mission.  It has been a slow process but we have made good headway; in the 2021 Durango Parks & Recreation budget there is money designated for the initial design work for eight, lighted courts and associated infrastructure at a new community park.

The Southwest Colorado Pickleball Association (SWCPA) is dedicated to growing the sport of Pickleball and to encourage a fun, social activity that builds friendship, improves fitness and builds a stronger sense of community in Durango and the surrounding Four Corners region.
