The Rec Center January Gym schedule distributed last week has some incorrect information. There are NO scheduled SWCPA Round Robins (for any level) during the Sunday 2:30-4:30 time slot in Gym 2 in the month of January. Our membership comes, primarily, from Durango and the surrounding communities. Association members are of all ages and skill levels. What unites us is our love of pickleball. We welcome anyone who enjoys the sport to join our organization. SWCPA was established in 2017, with only 35 members. Today we have over 250 active members. The original motivation for establishing the association was to advocate for the construction of dedicated, outdoor, public, pickleball courts. We have worked with city and county officials and are hopeful that construction work on the first set of courts will begin this year. As of May 31, 2023, the City of Durango had issued an Invitation for Bids to construct six courts at Schneider Park. The invitation bid package link can be found under the News tab on this web page. Further updates will be posted here as they become available. We need to continue to work with public officials to promote pickleball playing facilities. As members of the SWCPA, you can help by expressing your support for the courts whenever the opportunity arises. This year, the SWCPA plans to work with the Durango Community Recreation Center to arrange more opportunities for members to participate in Skills and Drills clinics, Round-Robin play and Shoot-Outs. In addition, we hope to arrange social events centered around the celebration of outdoor court construction. We ask you to become a SWCPA member, join in the fun, meet new people, support and help build the pickleball community in our corner of Colorado as the sport continues to grow across the globe.
